How To Configure Quarantine Files Removal On Windows Defender Antivirus
Usually, when the Windows Defender antivirus software is unable to identify whether the scanned file contains suspicious content, the detected file is moved to a special location called “Quarantine folder.” The file remains in the Quarantine folder until you remove it manually. However, you can pre-configure the Quarantine folder settings to automatically remove the stored files.

You can use the Local Group Policy Editor (for Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise) or Registry (for Windows 10 Home) to configure the quarantine file removal settings.
Using “Local Group Policy Editor”
Step 1:On your Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise computer, open the Run application.
Step 2:In the given field, type gpedit.msc and tap Enter to open the Group Policy Editor window.
Step 3:Once the requested window is opened, click the Computer Configuration option and select Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender Antivirus > Quarantine. Now, locate and double-click on the policy “Configure removal of items from Quarantine folder.”
Step 4:Check whether its option is set as Enabled. If not, enable it.
Step 5:Now, go to the Options section, and from the drop-down menu, choose the number of days that you wish to store the quarantine files.
Step 6:After selecting it, click the Apply button followed by OK.
Step 1:First, in the Run command box, type regedit and tap OK.
Step 2:Now, in the Registry window, select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft.
Step 3:Select and right-click on the Windows Defender folder.
Step 4:Click New > Key > Quarantine.
Step 5:Now, open the Quarantine folder’s context menu by right-clicking on it.
Step 6:Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Step 7:In the given field, type a name for the key and press Enter.
Step 8:Once the new key is created, double-click on it and select the Decimal option.
Step 9:Enter the number of days in the given field and click OK.
